-There are two main categories of acids in skincare:
- Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA)
- Beta-hydroxy acid (BHA)
AHA exfoliate the top layers of the skin, remove the dead skin cells and prevent pores from clogging. This category of acids includes glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid etc.
BHA acids exfoliate inside the pores and are great for keeping for keeping pores clear and preventing acne. The most common BHA is the salicylic acid. Never use BHA when pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Glycolic acid
This AHA acid is extremely beneficial for the skin. It penetrates the skin easily and reduces acne, pigmentation and dryness. It can be found in many moisturizers, serums and peels.
- Salicylic acid
This beta-hydroxy acid is the best for people with acne-prone skin and breakouts. It penetrates deep into the skin and unclogs the pores and has anti-inflammatory properties.
- Hyaluronic acid
If you are looking for a product that can provide your skin with hydration then try something with hyaluronic acid. This acid will hydrate your skin making it soft and supple like never before.
- Lactic acid
This acid comes from the milk and is recommended for people with dull skin and breakouts.
- Tartartic acid
Tartartic acids comes from the grapeseed and is good for people with sensitive skin. However, always be careful with its usage because sometimes you can have a reaction to it.
